This seminar aims to bridge the gap between nature and culture (between philosophical and evolutionary aesthetics) in terms of the concept of in-betweenness (Dazwischen). Set in the trend of emotive-cognitive research (which promotes certain collaborations between our sensory experiences), this seminar dissolves some rigid sets of binary opposition by way of non-reductive dialectical reasoning. It looks into some key contexts in which philosophers and aestheticians rigorously engaged with and elaborated on the merits of mediating between seemingly diverse entities. It is hoped that the seminar will shed some new light on conundrums already exist in gender, intercultural and intermedial studies.
